Former management consultant Marson and colleague Ed Ainsworth quit their jobs in 2000 to set up software outsourcing and consultancy firm, 4C Associates, with £900,000 of theirs and private individuals' money. Still a fledgling business and 16 person set-up, it has secured FTSE 100 clients including AstraZeneca, Boots and Prudential and is set to make £2m to the end of 2003, with £4m projected for 2004.

2016 update:

Marson remains as non-executive director of 4C Associates, which now claims to have £3bn under management and a client base that spans multiple countries, sectors and sizes. The company’s more than 80 clients include Age UK, O2, BP, Coca Cola and Disney. As a founding partner of Ansor Ventures, a venture capital firm founded by a group of successful entrepreneurs, Marson acts as director to a number of other companies including outdoor and lifestyle distributor Belstane, two serviced apartment providers: The Apartment Network and Flying Butler Apartments; as well as marketing specialist The Marketing Factory.
