Nick D’Aloisio, the teenage entrepreneur who sold his news summarising app Summly to Yahoo for an estimated £19m, has decided to leave his role with the tech firm to go to university.
18-year old D’Aloisio, a member of the Young Guns class of 2013, had taken up the role of product manager for the tech firm at the end of last year to manage the app; which after being absorbed by its acquirer was changed to Yahoo News Digest.
Although he will continue to work part-time on Yahoo News Digest, D’Aloisio will now be studying computer science and philosophy at Oxford University.
Since D’Aloisio joined Yahoo, the app has been downloaded over two million times; according to analytics firm Xyo.
Discussing the move, D’Aloisio said:
“I’m excited to simultaneously complete my university degree while continuing part-time to manage Yahoo News Digest – especially at such an exciting time for summarisation, artificial intelligence and wearables.”
