Deliveroo launches in two of Europe’s foodie capitals Young Gun founded delivery service has raised $30m to date to fund ambitious global expansion plans Our experts We are a team of writers, experimenters and researchers providing you with the best advice with zero bias or partiality. Food delivery service Deliveroo has announced the continuation of its first wave of international expansion, with two new offices in Berlin and Paris after its launch in Dublin earlier this week.Launched in 2013 by Young Guns William Shu and Greg Orlowski, Deliveroo offers home delivered meals from a variety of participating independent, local and chain restaurants such as YO! Sushi, GBK and Honest Burgers. Restaurants receive orders on a tablet installed at the point of sale and are able to exchange information with the driver about timing and delivery status. The service thrives on areas with a high population density and affluent residents which makes Berlin and Paris, with their vibrant food cultures, ideal new markets. In the last two years, Deliveroo has seen its customer base grow to more than 100,000, with a 500 strong team of drivers serving 1,500 restaurants. In January the company raised $25m from Accel Partners, Index Ventures and Hoxton Ventures to fund its expansion into six new cities across the UK and internationally. It now hopes to roll out its service in an additional 25 towns and cities in Britain before the end of the year and has its sights on new markets in Europe and the Middle East. Shu commented: “Berlin and Paris have thriving food cultures, yet consumers have had to put up with a sub-standard delivery experience. Now, our full service solution will enable them to enjoy quality food delivered quickly and consistently, whether it’s burgers, pan-Asian or burritos, from the best restaurants around them.”“This international expansion marks the first step in our plan to become the best food delivery company in the world. We’ve quickly established an enthusiastic base of repeat customers in our eight cities of operation in the UK and we intend to do the same in our new countries of operation.” Share this post facebook twitter linkedin
