Node4 launches new Northampton based data centre

A data centre recently commissioned by data and communications solution provider Node4  will “help place Northampton on the map as a hub for innovation in IT”, according to founder and 2010 Young Gun Andy Gilbert.

The new £8m facility is the result of nine months of planning and building and joins Node4’s other three data centres.

According to Gilbert, the latest opening will also boost employment in the area, while consolidating the success of Node4’s existing data centres.

The new data hub will be around twice the size of Node4’s Wakefield site, making it the company’s largest facility to date, and, according to Gilbert, is specifically designed “to meet the needs of small and medium sized enterprises who are trying to keep to strict budgets for managing and implementing IT”.

Prior to the construction of the Northampton site, Node4 has been restricted to premises in the north of England. Gilbert believes the new hub will play a role in reaching out to small firms in the south and midlands, and give them a tangible feel for the company holding their crucial data. On the back of strong demand, Node4 is already planning a fifth facility in outskirts of Birmingham.  A sixth may also be on the cards, as Node4 looks to build on a string of recent successes.
