Young Gun Nicko Williamson steps down from Climatecars

2010 Young Gun Nicko Williamson has exited Climatecars after six years as CEO and will move to the role of co-chairman.

Launched in 2007, London-based Climatecars is a carbon neutral car hire service using environmentally friendly cars such as the Toyota Prius and electric cars. It has now grown to become one of the largest eco-focused taxi companies in the market with a run rate of £5m.

Williamson, awarded Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2011 Fast Growth Business Awards, intends to use the move to “go off and start something else” whilst advising new CEO Sam Cropper.

It is planned that Cropper, who has worked in a series of fast-growth corporations, will use his knowledge from the sector to further boost the company’s development.

The exit sees Williamson remain the largest shareholder in the business with no plans to sell his equity stake.

Williamson discussed his decision: “We remain in the final stages of my transition to chairman of the business and I am very much looking forward to staying involved but in the back seat, watching Sam grow the business and advising where I can.”

“I have raised capital for my next business which I have co-founded and will be CEO of. I am now enjoying being back in the start-up world, which gives me incredible energy”.
