Tony Caldeira, who was named a Young Gun in 2004 as founder of soft furnishings company Caldeira Ltd, has announced that he is standing as the Conservative candidate for Wirral West.

Caldeira, who has twice previously run for mayor of Liverpool, will stand in the upcoming snap general election on June 8 against Labour’s Margaret Greenwood and the Liberal Democrat’s Peter Reisdorf. The seat was taken by Labour in the 2015 election.

Founded in 1991, St Helens-based Caldeira grew to £20m in turnover by 2012 and opened a store on New York’s Fifth Avenue. The company featured in two documentaries, Brits Get Rich in China on Channel 4 and The Town Taking on China on BBC.
