Classlist, a social platform designed for the parents of school children, has closed £841,360 in its latest funding round on Crowdcube.

Billing itself as the “world’s first virtual school gate”, Classlist offers a free-to-use online parent to parent community and claims thousands of users have already signed up.

Targeting parent teacher associates and class reps, 240 investors raised 153% of the initial £550,000 target for 20.75% equity, and included chairman of Heal’s Will Hobhouse.

The finance will allow the start-up to go fully mobile and expand into the international market.

Susan Burton, co-founder of Classlist, said:

“Classlist solves a very simple problem: most schools don’t give out parent contact information. Schools are rightly concerned about data privacy, and few people are willing to put their phone number or home address on a big social media site. It is incredibly important for parents to build a trusted community. Having these details makes it a lot easier.”

Clare Wright, co-founder of Classlist said:

“Parents increasingly juggle responsibilities between full time jobs and school, and some tell us they struggle to identify other parents in their class. Classlist has all the information a parent needs in just a click or two.”
