The overall winner of the 2007 Startups Awards is one of the stand-out inclusions in this year’s Future 100, a list of Britain’s most promising socially responsible young entrepreneurs.

James Taylor (far left) founded SuperStars (formerly SportStars) in 2005, with the aim of boosting children’s development – and helping primary schools raise their standards – by offering sports coaching to pupils during teachers’ planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time. The business has since expanded to offer specialists in drama, music, art and design technology – as well as after school clubs and activities throughout school holidays.

The Future 100 Awards, organised by business and career coaching social enterprise Striding Out, recognises the achievements of entrepreneurs aged 18-35 who demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and innovation in developing a socially responsible venture.

Also on this year’s list was serial entrepreneur Oli Barrett, who was nominated in recognition of his work on behalf of StartUp Britain, and for the success of his own venture, The Co-Sponsorship Agency – which strives to encourage big companies to deliver community projects.

Other nominees include Benjamin Moore, whose company provides emerging artists with advertising space on the London Underground; Lucy Tammam, creator of her own eco-couture fashion label; and business partners Darren Chadwick and Alex James, who together founded sustainability consultancy Brite Green.

Speaking about his inclusion, Chadwick told Startups: “We’re completely over the moon with this award. This recognition tops off what’s been a great year for the company, and helps affirm our belief that sustainability is a solution for businesses, not a distraction, during these difficult economic times.

“As a young company ourselves, we’re especially tuned into the importance of sustainability for future success – and the benefits it can provide to all businesses.”

This year’s Startups Awards will take place at London’s Kensington Roof Gardens on 2 December. For more information, visit: Startups.co.uk/startups-awards/
