WeWork offers £1.5m funding to UK start-ups through its Creator Awards

Collaborative workspace provider WeWork has announced that it is bringing its Creator Awards programme to the UK, offering prizes totalling £1.5m to start-ups across the country.

With entries now open, WeWork is encouraging entrepreneurs who are “making a difference in their communities” and “pursuing their passions” to apply for one of three available accolades.

The workspace giant has stated that all applicants will receive desk space in its facilities for two days per month for a year, while finalists will be invited to London for a pitch event in September.

Those who are successful will join the global finals in New York alongside hopefuls from across the globe, with winners receiving between £36,000 and £360,000 funding. A total of £16m is to be invested in businesses from around the world.

Founded in 2010 by Adam Neumann and Miguel McKelvey, WeWork aims to provide businesses with a collaborative community in which to network and grow.

With 12 London workspaces and over 14,000 members in the city, WeWork has recently announced reaching the milestone of 100,000 members worldwide.

WeWork co-founder and CEO Neumann said: “Bringing the Creator Awards programme to London is our way of supporting the growth and continued success of the UK’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

“We want to recognise, reward and financially support the brightest new ideas and best organisations coming out of the UK, as well as connect UK-based innovators with creators from all over the world.”
