As the private tutoring market continues to expand, so to do the business opportunities in tutoring with eight new franchisees having recently taken up tutoring ventures with Tutor Doctor.

The franchisees, many of whom don’t have a background in teaching, have launched their own tutoring franchisees and are in good company; 23 new business owners have launched franchises with the chain in the last six months alone.

These new entrepreneurs, which include former IT sales executive Stephen Woolley and ex-headmistress Anita Pancholi, are leveraging the booming private tuition market.

In fact, a survey by the Sutton Trust found that a quarter of all young people in the UK have received private tutoring in the last year.

Woolley, who opened his Loughborough franchise in September, said that he chose to leave behind his 32-year IT career after “franchising emerged as a practical way of setting up my own business by using a tried and tested formula”.

Similarly, Pancholi, a new franchisee for Leicester, decided to become a tutoring franchisee because “there aren’t many opportunities out there where you can build a business whilst, at the same time, making a difference to children’s lives.”

Launched in the UK in 2009 but first established in 2000, Tutor Doctor is the fastest-growing home tutoring franchise in the world with a network of more than 500 franchisees operating in 16 countries. The brand claims that, out of all its global territories, the UK has shown the fastest growth in like-for-like sales.

With new UK franchise opportunities available from £29,700, Tutor Doctor has said that launching your own tutoring business is both sustainable – “widely regarded as recession-proof” – and has “much more to offer than undoubtedly tempting financial rewards.”

When it comes to the perfect franchisee, the chain is happy to consider anyone from all walks of life and explains that over 80% of its franchisees don’t come from a teaching background at all.

Tutor Doctor UK country manager, Tim Morris, commented on the appeal of its franchise:

“Tutor Doctor is about more than providing a great service, it’s about building confidence, sharing knowledge and empowering generations of students.

“When our franchisees combine their desire to truly make a difference with our world-class training and support systems, something very special happens. Its why our network continues to grow culturally and financially; in size, strength and in influence.”
