Written and reviewed by: Megan Dunsby Angel investor Sherry Coutu CBE and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman have launched the Scale-Up Institute – a not-for-profit body which intends to help fast-growth British start-ups become “global giants”.Backed by Google, the Business Growth Fund, the London Stock Exchange and several advisory firms, the organisation will provide promising small businesses with advice on leadership, exports markets and raising finance alongside access to a network of advisors. It will also lobby government on key issues such as red tape and infrastructure. The launch follows Coutu’s Scale Up report, released last year, which argued that the government should focus its efforts on supporting ambitious businesses to scale to their full potential with six key recommendations including closing the skills gap, better access to finance and developing “scale-up leadership”.On the report, Coutu had commented:“Like many other investors, I make sure that I have a portfolio of short, medium and long-term investments. Similarly, as a country we need to consider the impact of the UK’s portfolio of growth-enhancing policies and initiatives — both public and private.”Find out how you can scale your business by visiting Scaleups.co.uk.
