The University of Southampton has announced that it will be hosting the UK’s first student-led start-up weekend and hackathon; offering the winning team an all-expenses paid trip to California tech hub Silicon Valley.

The hackathon; an event which enables computer programmers and developers to collaborate on software projects, will be taking place from March 7 to March 9 and will intend to target budding tech entrepreneurs.

As part of the non-profit business event, participants will be have to form teams and create a business idea within 48 hours which they will then pitch to a panel of expert judges.

Open to both students and the public, the weekend will also feature seminars and mentoring sessions from business and technology leaders, and presentations on the latest tech innovations.

Tahlie Cooper, of event organisers Startup Weekends, commented:

“Start-up weekends make up some of the best entrepreneurial events in the UK, forming a global network of budding entrepreneurs determined to produce the next biggest start-up.

“We ensure that participants are provided with the best facilities along with an experience to remember.”

The event will be taking place at the University of Southampton’s Highfield Campus, to find out more about the start-up weekend click here.
