Here’s a fact that stinks: every year, an estimated 167bn disposable nappies are produced, requiring 248.5m barrels of crude oil to create. Billions of these end up in landfills, where they can take hundreds of years to decompose.

Peachies is a new startup that’s addressing this problem by creating nappies that are made from plant-based materials. Its unique blend material is also 20% more efficient – reducing the waste generated in production and the weight of the nappy.

In a sector that’s seen little innovation since the 1980s, Peachies’ latest nappy model might as well be the release of the new iPhone.

It’s also kickstarting the revolution against the overall environmental impact of the industry. Peachies claims to save up to 93 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year per 1,000 babies using its products, which is equivalent to driving around the world 12 times.

As well as its core eco mission, the latest Peachies nappy does the main job you’d hope for just as well. It’s designed to stop leaks, thanks to super sticky waistband fasteners and wider leg cuffs, to better hug little bums and keep all the mess locked up inside, giving parents one less cause for sleepless nights.

And there’ll be no more late-night trips to the shops for sleep-addled mums and dads. Peachies offers a subscription service that delivers nappies directly to your door, helping to clean up the hefty environmental impact of shipping.

Aiming to stock one million nappy bags in five years’ time, Peachies’ is a welcome mission statement in a world where unfathomable amounts of waste are headed to landfill, and sustainable shopping choices are ever-more needed. Could it be time to change your nappies?
