The Thriva story:

Building what it calls the “world’s first preventative healthcare service”, Thriva is a company that firmly believes the world would be a better place if people were regularly informed about their health – in a cost-effective and efficient way.

Striving to make the old saying ‘prevention is better than cure’ a reality, Thriva provides consumers with self-service blood testing kits and an online platform where users can track their results.

Receiving everything they need for a DIY blood test in the post, users simply prick their finger and send the results to one of Thriva’s partner labs via a freepost envelope.

After the results have been analysed, Thriva’s clients then log in to their online dashboard where they can view their results, complete with commentary from an NHS trained GP.

Founded by Young Guns Hamish Grierson, Tom Livesey and Eliot Brooks, the trio’s decision to disrupt the health service, and give more control back to the public, stemmed from Brooks’s frequent need to check his blood due to his high cholesterol levels.

Initially only offering one-off tests, the product technologists began to realise the demand for regular tracking – with subscribers now making up the majority of the start-up’s revenue, with a significant amount receiving results for well over 10 months.

Since launching its Baseline tracking product in October 2016, Thriva has processed well over 10,000 paid-for tests and acquired over 6,000 subscribers.

Having raised over £1.5m in seed funding, the London-based start-up has already expanded its range of tests and launched a product to streamline blood testing for specialists.

Ready to also launch a new range of subscription packages designed to help clients track health risks, the healthtech business is determined to ensure the days of people “blindly descending into preventable diseases” are over.

Why Thriva made our shortlist:

With a time-constrained health service unable to provide for everyone in a timely and convenient manner, Thriva’s disruptive healthtech model looks to be just what the doctor ordered.
