ODEON and UCI Cinema Group to launch London innovation lab

Pilot scheme will challenge start-ups to bring cinema chain "into digital age and transform customer experience"

ODEON and UCI Cinemas Group is set to pilot a start-up innovation lab in London, to nurture entrepreneurs to create products to improve the experience of cinema-goers.

The group will open its HQ once a month to allow start-ups to collaborate with its commercial and IT teams with the best ideas tested in UK cinemas, and potentially rolled out across Europe.

Following the pilot scheme in the capital this August, the group – which operates in major markets across Europe – will launch another innovation lab in Barcelona.

Ian Shepherd, ODEON and UCI Cinemas Group chief commercial officer, commented: “We initiated a major programme 10 months ago to overhaul the technical and digital operations across our Group’s operations in the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany.

“This is giving us new technical services and allowing us to launch new digital and retail services for our guests.”
