Pinterest is the top social media platform for helping small and micro-businesses grow, according to latest research from 123 Reg.

Surveying 2,457 respondents from May 2016 to February 2017, the domain registrar found that small businesses and start-ups that used visual bookmarking site Pinterest had grown their sales by 54%.

This is 24% higher than businesses that chose to use Twitter, 15% higher than Instagram, and 8% more than businesses using Facebook as their main social media medium.

With 100 million active users and with 93% of ‘Pinners’ having used Pinterest to plan for, or make purchases, 123 Reg has argued that it could be a “great marketing decision” for start-ups and small businesses to have a presence on the platform.

Nick Leech, digital director of 123 Reg, believes that “the potential marketing benefits of Pinterest cannot be ignored by online businesses”:

“Pinterest has been shown to create more effective referrals to their websites than Twitter or Facebook and our latest research reveals that it has helped small businesses grow than any other platform over the last year.”
