80. Lifesaver

Lifesaver’s sell and rent power banks provide a sustainable alternative to charging your phone on the go, using 100% renewable energy and ocean plastics.

About us

Startups was founded over 20 years ago by a multi-time entrepreneur. Today, our expert team of writers, researchers, and editors work to provide our 4 million readers with useful tips and information, as well as running award-winning campaigns.

Founder: Archie Wilkinson
Founded: 2018

Lifesaver wants to keep things green – both the planet and your phone’s battery icon. You already know about climate change, but you may not know that charging mobile devices is a big contributor, particularly when using portable power sources at large social events.

That’s what founder Archie Wilkinson wanted to rectify when he launched Lifesaver in 2018. He knew that keeping our phones alive (in a sustainable way) could play a small part in keeping our planet alive, too. So, where can you find them?

We love any business that wants to protect the earth, but Lifesaver goes the extra mile. The first and only company to build its power banks with ocean plastic, it then fills those up with 100% renewable energy – saving 13 grams of Co2 per charge.

These pocket-sized, green powering machines are currently available at Network Rail stations, the 02, and the Excel, but also large events such as the Formula 1, The Ryder Cup, and The Grand National.

It even upcycles its batteries to help power communities without access to electricity, offering ocean plastic recharge stations. Lifesaver’s now helping 40,000 customers in 11 different countries to  share batteries.

Lifesaver’s also the UK’s first company to support the First Cobalt Alliance, working towards creating safer mines in the Congo to ensure no child labour – the philanthropic list could go on.

You’ve got to admire Lifesaver’s green approach to such a mundane yet important everyday task, with the power to help the climate crisis now in our hands, literally.
