To the dismay of any eco-conscious parent, nappies and other baby products have a big impact on the environment. Traditional nappies are made from oil-based, single-use plastics, of which David Attenborough would surely not approve.

Luckily, thanks to Laura Crawford and Jennifer Potts, there is a sustainable alternative. Mama Bamboo was founded in 2018 to provide disposable, sustainable baby products made from bamboo.

As it turns out, bamboo and baby products are a sustainable dream team. Bamboo is organic, biodegradable, and is an effective carbon sink. Not to mention it’s breathable, soft, and naturally antibacterial – what’s good for the planet is good for babies too!

This forward-thinking business uses 100% certified sustainable Moso bamboo to manufacture and sell award-winning eco nappies and wet wipes

This forward-thinking business uses 100% certified sustainable Moso bamboo to manufacture and sell award-winning eco nappies and wet wipes, as well as nappy bags and plate sets. And it does it well, with an impressive commitment to ethical, long-term change.

For starters, Mama Bamboo is the first European nappy company to achieve B-Corp status. This means that it meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability – a status that takes 11 months of assessments to achieve. It’s also the only UK nappy company to use 100% compostable liners and packing for its nappies.

From launching the #NappyRevolution campaign to change how councils process nappy and wipes waste, to donating funds to the NSPCC and WWF charities, it’s clear that Mama Bamboo means business outside of its online store too.

And this is only the beginning for Mama Bamboo – its goal is to become completely carbon neutral by 2025.

The climate crisis is a challenge that will doubtless be fought by future generations as well as ours, and we’re excited to see Mama Bamboo making positive change while the next generation is still in (eco-friendly) nappies.
