In the face of a challenge as massive as climate change, it can be daunting to try to figure out what you as an individual should do to help.

75% of adults in the UK said they are worried about the impact of climate change in a 2021 survey by the Office for National Statistics. But many employees are unsure where to start, leading managers to turn instead to quick, costly solutions like carbon offsetting.

Scotland-based startup, Pawprint is a Climate Action Platform designed to help businesses motivate and educate team members on what they can do to take personal action and help reduce their carbon footprint while at work.

Using simple educational content, robust data, and gamified features, staff are encouraged to work on limiting their environmental impact in a meaningful way, benefiting both employee and employer.

Of course, the onus is not all at the individual’s feet. Pawprint also enables larger clients to gather GHG-aligned data from the platform to report on their emissions status and stay ahead of regulations.

Founder, Christian Arno says he was inspired by his own father’s climate activism to start Pawprint in 2019, telling Startups he is “determined to grow Pawprint into a global movement, [empower] businesses and people alike to protect life as we know it.”

If the startup’s current successes are anything to go by, that’s certainly an achievable goal. In just two years, the platform has gone live on Apple and Google Play stores, and partnered with industry-leaders such as Tesco Bank, Royal London, and Innocent.

With sustainably-focused startups like Pawprint leading the way, we think 2023 could be a transformative year for UK businesses in their journey towards becoming net zero.
