Funded Business of the Year 2013
Co-founders: Luke Lang and Darren Westlake
Year Started: 2010
The world’s first equity crowdfunding platform, Crowdcube enables entrepreneurs to showcase their business’ investment potential online and raise equity finance from a nation of ‘Armchair investors’. The disruptive business model aims to bridge the funding gap in today’s business landscape by “democratising investment” and allowing businesses to access finance while bypassing traditional banking institutions.
Authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), to date, the site has successfully raised £16m to fund over 80 businesses. Offering further proof of its successful model, Crowdcube used its own platform to raise funding earlier this year, securing £1.5m, smashing its £250,000 target.
With seven-digit revenues, the platform is set to expand on a global scale and recently announced plans to launch in Italy, marking the seventh international joint venture agreement concluded by the firm.
