Judges’ Comments

Andrew Crawford of The Book Depository has identified a gap in a market and executed his business plan with aplomb. Judges were impressed by Crawford’s ability to manoeuvre such market share in a sector seemingly monopolised by his former employer Amazon, doing so through his innovative approach to sell the ‘longtail’, making all books available for all. Predominantly though, judges felt The Book Depository was a business that simply couldn’t have succeeded sourcing and selling globally so prolifically, and within just three years, without such intelligent use of the internet.
