Business description: On-demand laundry and dry cleaning

Shortlisted category:

App of the Year

The ZipJet story:

On a mission to “change the way the world does its dirty laundry”, Startups 100-listed ZipJet is the on-demand laundry and dry cleaning service “battling […] time poverty” in Europe’s major cities.

Users simply place an order within a 30 minute time slot through the app or website to have their clothes picked up from their home or office, and cleaned and returned in as little as six hours. It says then unlike its competitors, it doesn’t require you to itemise your order.

ZipJet also claims to differentiates itself through “its tech and sustainable approach to growth”. The platform uses a purpose-built algorithm that calculates driver routing to send the nearest available driver as quickly as possible and prioritises product development and service quality over marketing spend.

The company also claims to be the only app of its kind offering a same day service for customers to make a “laundry SOS” call.

Currently the ZipJet app is live in London, Paris and Berlin, with 50,000 users across the three cities and an 80% repeat custom rate.

As for what’s next, the start-up says it is preparing for a major PR stunt that will see it stage a “laundry liberation day” across major capitals.

Why ZipJet made our shortlist:

An innovative app that’s forging its own path in the on-demand laundry space with unique features and a sustainable business model, ZipJet is one to watch and a stellar rival to fellow People’s Champion finalist Laundrapp.
