Student.com gets backing from early Facebook investor Jim Breyer
Investment will support expansion of the UK-based student housing marketplace across the US, Latin America and Middle East
Student.com, a global marketplace for student housing (previously known as Overseas Student Living), has secured an undisclosed amount of funding from Breyer Capital; the firm led by high-profile venture capitalist (VC) and early Facebook investor Jim Breyer.
The investment in the London-based start-up follows a $60m funding round in February which involved VY Capital.
Founded by Luke Nolan in 2011, free-to-use Student.com aims to make booking student accommodation abroad simple and secure for international students.
Claiming to have achieved more than $110m in bookings from across 100 countries last year alone, the site hopes to list properties in 426 cities, within range of over 1,000 universities over the upcoming academic year.
It will capitalise on the new funding to fuel ongoing expansion across the US, Latin America and the Middle East.
Student.com head of strategy, Shakil Khan, commented: “Breyer has an extraordinary legacy of success with companies like Facebook, but he also has a truly unparalleled passion for education. It’s fantastic that he’s joining our journey to help millions of students have the best possible study abroad experience.”
“I’m thrilled to support Student.com’s mission and excellent leadership team as they aim to help millions of students around the world make the most of their educational journey.”
