Launched in 2012, online food ordering service Hello Fresh aims to give people the time, knowledge and ingredients they need to prepare delicious, home-cooked food. Customers can choose food boxes ranging from £36 to £129 which contain everything needed – bar stock kitchen items salt, pepper, butter, sugar and oil – for three to five meals for their household. All the ingredients are delivered direct and because they are portioned into exact quantities, both cooking time and food waste are kept to a minimum. The company claims its supplier relationships also secure it restaurant quality food at everyday prices. Additionally, easy-to-follow recipe cards, complete with photographs of every step, are designed to make life easy for time-poor foodies. Investors have clearly seen enormous potential in Hello Fresh’s proposition. The concept, which launched in London but has operations in the US, Australia and Germany, is backed by over $10m of investment led by Rocket Internet and private investors as well as venture capital backers. Already showing impressive growth, the company now delivers over 100,000 meals per month across the UK.
