Less than a year old, mobile-only ticketing app YPlan, has been pulling the crowds. The company, which employs more than 40 and is available on the App Store, has already booked over 4,000 events for Londoners, with a host of stellar venue partners including the Royal Albert Hall, the Comedy Store and the O2 Arena. Experienced tech investors clearly share the faith in the app’s enormous potential – in June, YPlan, which was named in the Startups 100 2013, secured a $12m investment in a funding round led by General Catalyst Partners in one of the largest European Series A funding rounds this year. This followed on from last year’s $1.7m seed capital round led by Wellington Partners and Octopus Investments. YPlan is on course to hit a multi-million pound turnover target for its first year and has high potential for growth in what is a relatively untapped market – it is the first mobile app to serve the $50bn global ticketed entertainment industry, in an environment where 50% of seats regularly go unsold. The founders are in the process of launching the app in New York, with further expansion to Tokyo, LA, and Barcelona planned as future potential cities.
