National Start-Ups Day UK, a day to celebrate and support Britain’s entrepreneurs and inspiring start-up businesses, returns on Friday 13 October 2017.

Organised by leading independent online business resource Startups.co.uk, National Start-Ups Day shines a light on exciting and innovative start-ups, while connecting start-up founders to advice and materials to help them succeed in business.

Running for its second year, the #NationalStartupsDay campaign will build on the success of 2016; on Twitter alone the hashtag went viral, generating hundreds of thousands of impressions while top brands and organisations gave their support to the campaign through social media engagement.

These names included PWC, Mass Challenge UK, Tech North, Peter Jones Foundation, Acas, Moneypenny, Companies Made Simple, and Experian.

We want this year’s campaign to be even bigger, and to make the voices of more start-ups heard and so…

Startups is encouraging its readers and supporters to get involved with the campaign and spread the word by tweeting #NationalStartupsDay and #PeoplesChampion on Friday 13 October.

What we’ll be doing to support #NationalStartupsDay:

Throughout the day we’ll be generating awareness of the UK’s most promising and innovative early-stage small businesses by showcasing profiles of over 70 inspiring start-ups in the running for #PeoplesChampion nominations for the Startups Awards 2017.

Readers and start-up peers will get the chance to vote for the companies they deem to be most deserving of the People’s Champion title, with the winner to be revealed at the Startups Awards 2017, backed by headline sponsor The Start-Up Loans Company, on Thursday 30 November.

But that’s not all. At the heart of the #NationalStartupsDay initiative is our mission to inform and educate start-up businesses and provide them with the resources they need to grow.

Therefore, we’ll be sharing a host of dedicated free advice, guides and materials across our social media accounts – on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook – to support start-ups and encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs.

What makes #NationalStartupsDay so important?

Latest ONS statistics show that there are now over 5.5 million small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the UK.
