Former Startups Awards winner Home Instead Senior Care has scooped the silver gong in this year’s British Franchise Association (bfa) HSBC Franchisor of the Year Awards.

Five winners were named in total, across three categories: Franchisor of the Year (gold, silver and bronze); the Franchise Support Award and the Express Newspapers Brand Builder, following 15 finalist presentations to an expert judging panel last month.

McDonald’s received top honours, winning the gold award for Franchisor of the Year; Home Instead Senior Care was presented with the silver award, while etyres walked away with the bronze.

Founded by Trevor and Sam Brocklebank, Home Instead Senior Care, which was crowned Barclays Startup Business of the Year and Franchisor of the Year in the 2008 Startups Awards, is the fifth largest care provider in the UK.

Commenting on the company’s latest award, the co-founders said: “Being recognised for our commitment to providing a top quality service to our franchisees, and therefore our clients, is such a fantastic reward.

“Each and every one of our franchisees is extremely passionate about delivering on our mission to be the UK’s most admired care company and receiving this award recognises our achievements in supporting them to do so.”

According to the bfa, the winners were picked on their ability to “bring to life the most entrepreneurial, ethical franchising in the UK today, regardless of business sector, size or geography”.

Brian Smart, director general of the bfa, said: “This has been another inspirational year for franchising. Each year the awards unearth fantastic success stories and demonstrations of ethical franchising at work.

“Our judging panel were presented with some of the best examples of innovation, brand development and franchisee support that they have ever seen and it has been a privilege to recognise these truly outstanding franchisors. Each of our winners is a credit to the sector.”
