A simple solution to a simple problem: pre-made or supermarket guacamole just wasn’t good enough (for anyone, let alone brunching millennials). It wasn’t tasty and often included unwanted preservatives or ingredients, like dairy products. Cue Holy Moly Dips.

After a lifetime of frustration cutting into rock-hard avocados to make their own guacamole, founders Tom Walker and Gaz Booth found themselves in a heated dinner-party debate over whether coriander should be a featured ingredient in the dip. This, naturally, led to them quickly booking flights to Mexico and finding a four-generation, family-owned avocado orchard to source the best ingredients for their own ready-to-eat range with a focus on taste and quality.

Despite being told repeatedly that the market had been cornered by big retailers, Walker and Booth followed their instincts and belief that this would be a right-place-right-time kind of product.

If the concept of avocado dips doesn’t inspire you, Walker and Booth’s startup story might. Despite being told repeatedly that the market had been cornered by big retailers, Walker and Booth followed their instincts and belief that this would be a right-place-right-time kind of product. And it was.

The founders’ belief in their product spurred them to grow a kitchen startup, with no previous food manufacturing experience, to a nation-wide brand across major retailers. The business’s revenue has doubled profitably every year since launch, with forecasting for next year suggesting it’ll happen again: impressive, enduring growth that has helped them rise up the Startups 100 index from position 47 in 2020.

Walker and Booth were not experts in food manufacturing when they launched their venture. Everything they’ve achieved is through an unwavering commitment to quality, excellent execution, and maintaining a view of a market through a consumer lens – and we’re optimistically curious to see if this will keep them ahead of the market in the coming years.
