Wix website builder review
Wix is our number one website builder for ease of use, features and price - is it right for your small business?
We are a team of writers, experimenters and researchers providing you with the best advice with zero bias or partiality. This article was co-authored by:
With over 110 million users worldwide and on average 45,000 sign-ups a day, Wix is now the world's most popular website builder
We tested Wix ourselves and talked to small business owners about their experience with this website builder – and it came out top in most ratings. Not only are its super-low prices hard to beat, it also has the largest variety of templates and couldn't be easier to use.
Wix offers stunning, mobile-friendly website pages, but you can also customise your layouts much more than with most other website builders.
In this review, we'll explain everything you need to know about Wix to decide if it's right for you – and if you'd like to give it a try, click here for a free trial.
Wix pros and cons
A solid all-rounder
With the cheapest monthly subscriptions and some of the most trail-blazing features, Wix tends to impress. Plus, no other website builder even comes close to Wix in terms of the features it offers.
Wix seems to have thought of everything small business owners need when building a website, from affordable ecommerce options to expert search engine optimisation (SEO) assistance.
Especially if you're new to website building, the entire process can be headache-inducing – but Wix makes it all as easy (and even enjoyable) as possible.
Most of the drawbacks are industry standard
Most website builders will put ads on free versions of your site, but if you're keen to avoid these, just make sure you sign up for the Combo pricing plan at least.
Other than that, the only potential deal breaker with Wix is if you need your site to be available in different languages, which Wix doesn't currently have a function for. That said, you can always add the Google Translate app to your pages as a pretty reliable get-around.
Wix websites are ideal for small businesses of all sorts – whether you're a start-up, restaurant or photographer (really any site with under 30 pages works well with Wix).
How much does a Wix website cost?
Wix offers more price plans than most other website builders, so you can pick or switch to one that works for you – whether you need to sell online with ecommerce functionality, or simply just promote your business with an online presence.
For a comprehensive guide to Wix's pricing plans and costs, head over to our dedicated Wix Pricing page. Or find a quick summary below.
At £3 a month, the cheapest Wix plan is great for sinking your teeth in. But with limited storage space, ads on every page and not enough business features, it won't really cut it for business use.
This plan is designed for personal use and costs £6 a month. Although it's possible to remove the Wix ads, it still has limited bandwidth and storage, so we think it's best to avoid if you're serious about growing your business.
The Unlimited plan, at £8.50 a month, is the most popular option for small businesses and we find it the best value for money (with unlimited bandwidth, 10GB storage, plus £75 worth of ad vouchers).
Though if you're interested in really marketing your business, the £18 per month VIP plan is well worth considering. It'll get you unlimited bandwidth, 20GB storage, £75 worth of ad vouchers and 10 monthly email campaigns.
If you want to be able to accept online payments, you'll need to choose one from Wix's Business & eCommerce plans.
There are three plans to choose from. These are:
The Business Basic plan is £13 a month and offers the essential elements to accept online payments, as well as 20GB storage and unlimited bandwidth. That means it's ideal if you want to sell your products online.
At £16 a month, the Business Unlimited plan is the most popular of the three. In addition to accepting online payments, some of the other features that make it ideal for growing businesses are the 35GB storage, as well as 20 email campaigns and 100,00 emails per month.
For a slightly more premium £22 a month, the Business VIP plan is suitable for more established businesses, who are in need of deluxe features and support, such as with its 50GB storage as well as priority response and VIP support.
Wix user experience
Easy to use
Wix is one of the most user-friendly and flexible website builders we tested. There's plenty of hand-holding if you're not keen (or don't have time) to get your hands dirty with HTML, but you also have that option if you'd like.
The simple drag-and-drop template system could not be more intuitive to use and the Artificial Design Intelligence (ADI) function will even create a tailored website for you based on your individual needs.
Solid customer support
Wix goes above and beyond the customer support you'll find offered by most website builders. Rather than plugging your questions into search bars, you'll find a handy ‘Help' button on most features within the builder itself.
Or you're welcome to call their support team 24/7. Even if you prefer to request help via email, their response times are speedy. Unlike Squarespace, you won't get live chat support (but we found these options more useful anyway).
You can pick from any of Wix's templates here.
Wix is often ahead of the curve when it comes to rolling out new features – and we like how their features are really designed to make creating your own website as hassle-free and intuitive as possible.
No other website builders even compare with the range and sophistication of Wix's features. They range from AI-assisted template pickers to tools which boost your Google ranking and ecommerce apps.
The list of Wix apps seems endless – you just click the one you want to add it to your site. Here are Wix's main features:
Not everyone has the time (or know-how) to design a website. Wix was the first builder to offer a helping hand through an AI pro.
You just answer a few simple questions on your business and Wix will offer an ideal website template that's custom-made for your specific needs.
It's just like having your very own website designer, only far cheaper – and you're welcome to edit it afterwards.
Wix SEO Whiz
A website that's not getting enough visitors won't help any business. These days a successful website needs more than just a jazzy design – it needs to be driving people to your site.
This is where SEO comes in. You don't need to understand the complex algorithms that rule Google searches (they're secret anyway).
But Wix offers its users robust SEO support with these key features, all designed to help your site perform better:
- Meta-tags – Words to help your site get found.
- URL – Your unique web address.
- Headers – Top-of-page titles to summarise your page's content.
- Keywords – The most relevant search terms for your business.
- Links – Connections between your webpages.
Here's how you can rank your site higher on Google with Wix SEO Whiz:
No brand department in your small business? No problem! Wix will take care of that too. You'll be able to personalise your site so it's in line with your business identity with elements like:
- Blog – Build a hub of information with evergreen content.
- Images – Showcase your business (your products; your (happy) customers).
- Domain name – A custom domain name makes businesses seem professional.
- Favicon – Display your company logo to tell your customers where they are.
Having an online store can be one of the best decisions you can make to grow your business. With Wix's eCommerce plan, you can:
- Show unlimited products
- Sell from your website directly
- Enjoy no commission charges
Wix's user-friendly website editor will guide you through all the stages, including product display, individual product pages as well as the cart and checkout pages.
Plus, you can connect payment methods, as well as setting the appropriate shipping and tax requirements.
You can choose a template with this feature already included, or opt to add in a Wix Store at a later date. Ecommerce functions will require a Premium plan, but Wix's rates for these are still far below market average and the cheapest in the UK.

When using an ecommerce platform, it’s vital to ensure the site you use is secure and protected. So what security does Wix offer?
- Encryption – Wix protects the data used when sending money online.
- ISO Compliance – Best practice for managing security risks and identifiable personal data.
- PCI Compliance – Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) are a set of requirements for card security.
Wix Logo Maker
Even if you're in the early stages of your brand design, with the Wix Logo Maker, you can design a stunning logo for any kind of business.
Just answer a few simple questions, and you’ll get a logo that’s just right for you. Here's how it works:
These days, most people check out websites on their phone, so you need to know your website builder will optimise your site for smartphones. Wix and GoDaddy are two of the web builders who do this best.
Wix automatically creates a mobile-friendly version of your site, and you can also edit this version on your own special mobile editor if you'd like to have more control over this. Any changes made here won't affect the desktop version.
And of course, there's also a Wix website app available for free on iOS and Android to give you the flexibility to manage your site from wherever you are.
