Startups 100: Ecommerce Award

Founders: Megan Bingham Walker and Ana Martins De Carvalho
Founded: 2018
Website: withanansi.com

It was while operating her own ecommerce business that Anansi co-founder Megan Bingham Walker received first-hand experience of the disjointed process of buying shipment insurance. Compared to other, smoother business tasks, she was struck by the outdated and poor service currently provided by couriers for missing or damaged parcels.

Anansi is Bingham Walker’s rebuttal, an insurance solution that operates outside of a courier’s standard shipping protection. In doing so, it removes the usual pain points associated with claims like frustratingly slow communication and ambiguous pricing.

With Anansi, the process is automated, which means there’s no need for business users to make a call or fill out a form if a package goes missing. Claims are automatically made, and the refund is automatically sent directly back into their business bank account each month.

An insurance solution that operates outside of a courier's standard shipping protection.

In delivering such an easy and time-saving solution, Anansi hopes to remove the headaches associated with shipment claims. According to the company, only 10% of goods in transit are currently insured, as current solutions simply aren’t ‘fit for purpose’.

Anansi offers companies instant cover quotes with full retail value settlements, up to £25,000. The solution covers pretty much any courier you could name too, with providers like DHL, Evri, FedEx, and UPS signed up.

One of the key tenements of Anansi is a belief in diverse hiring and representation, as Anansi tells us that it has a strong desire to craft a workplace where everyone is respected and valued.

We’re delighted to include Anansi in the Startups 100 this year – and it might need to buy another trophy cabinet soon. The company has been collecting accolades consistently across the industry, and looks set to go from strength to strength in future.
