Borrowing a page from the Avatar screenplay, Strolll is a startup doing amazing work in the healthcare sector, giving movement therapy a distinct 21st century edge.

Strolll develops digital therapeutics software for augmented reality glasses to empower movement therapy for people with neurological disorders. These glasses produce stimuli to the brain that help foster movement, freeing the otherwise blocked neural pathways that prevent it.

In plain English, the glasses create lines on the floor that engage the brain. This process can alleviate the walking impairments of people with disorders such as Parkinson’s, stroke, Lewy body dementia, and others.

Parkinson's disease is the world's fastest-growing neurological disorder. It affects 10 million people today and it severely limits a person's ability to walk, devastating their quality of life and our already stretched healthcare systems don't have the technology or human resources to meet the growing challenge.

This is no mean feat. According to Strolll’s founders, Jorgen Ellis and Thomas Finn, “Parkinson’s disease is the world’s fastest-growing neurological disorder. It affects 10 million people today and it severely limits a person’s ability to walk, devastating their quality of life and our already stretched healthcare systems don’t have the technology or human resources to meet the growing challenge”.

The company aims to be the world-leading medical device company for digital physiotherapy in five years’ time, with 500,000+ prescriptions per year and 100,000 augmented reality devices available.

So far, the West Midlands tech startup has been taking big steps in this direction. From its humble beginnings in 2019, it now works with the world’s leading Parkinson’s charities, like Parkinson’s UK and Michael J Fox Foundation, as well as top universities like VU University Amsterdam, University of Exeter, and University of Leeds.
