Tell us what your business does:

We rent desks to innovative start-ups in a super environmentally-friendly setting.

Where did the idea for your business come from?

I was working with a film production company in New York who based themselves in a co-working space. I loved it, and decided to bring it to the UK.

How did you know there was a market for it?

Start-ups are booming, especially in London. And they’re looking for the right location to help them kick-start their brand – and the key is finding the qualities that will give your space an edge over your competitors (and that’s where Huckletree can help).

What were you doing before starting up?

I was, and still am, working as an actress.

Have you always wanted to run your own business?

Yes I have always wanted to start and own my own business as I love risk, creativity, challenges – all the best bits of running your own company!

How did you raise the money?

I went out and sought investment to get the company off the ground.

Describe your business model and how you make money:

Essentially, we rent desk space, but it’s so much more than that. We also help ensure a steady market for our services by collaborating with the start-up community.

What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

At first, some people were skeptical about whether this sort of model would work in the UK. I just stayed true to myself and proved them wrong.

What was your first big breakthrough?

The biggest breakthrough with the business, and as an entrepreneur, to date was when I raised the funds that enabled me to launch Huckletree!

What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

Bring your product to market as efficiently as possible and don’t overspend too early on. You can always refine your product once it’s active.

Where do you want to be in five years’ time?

In five years I would like to be launching more Huckletrees, both in London and other ‘start-up cities’ throughout the world like New York, San Francisco and LA.
