As with many of the best new business ideas, it all starts with a problem. Currently, only 5% of the £56bn UK trade services market goes to tradeswomen. Not due to a lack of skill, but because women in trades face systemic barriers like lack of visibility, bias, and stereotyping.

In 2020, Anna Moynihan and her husband saw firsthand how this issue affects the consumer. When they needed some work done on their kitchen, despite Anna having made contact on the phone and via WhatsApp, the two male tradespeople who came round directed their attention entirely to Anna’s husband. Enter TaskHer.

TaskHer enables homeowners to find, book, and pay verified tradeswomen online. Users enter their address into the TaskHer website to find tradeswomen in their area for their chosen task.

Our platform delivers an immediate quote, allowing customers to book tradeswomen within three minutes,” says Moynihan. “No more chasing down tradespeople or unclear pricing – everything is upfront, including secure payments.

All of the tradeswomen featured on TaskHer are verified and the platform offers accredited reviews, so customers know they’re getting top-quality service.

A huge career highlight for Moynihan includes the startup’s collaboration with global advertising company MOTHER Berlin, who approached TaskHer to partner on its Trade Places campaign, spotlighting how 39% of tradeswomen don’t feel they are taken seriously because of their gender.

Equally impressive, TaskHer has raised £200k in seed funding from Bethnal Green Ventures, Resolution Foundation and Ufi Ventures.

In five years, Moynihan says TaskHer will be a leading marketplace for tradeswomen across the UK. It plans to expand to Bristol and Brighton this year, and Manchester by 2026.

With a mission to level the playing field, TaskHer is paving the way for a brighter future for tradeswomen and homeowners alike in 2025.
