Almost all of us have experienced the frustration of losing access to a healthcare specialist we needed, whether for ourselves or a loved one. Specifically, many of us have experienced the stress of needing specialist care, and being bounced around an outdated system.
That’s why Dr Sonia Szamocki set out with one pretty bold mission statement, to tackle, in her words, the “$1 trillion untreated specialist healthcare market in the UK and US.” With over a decade of experience as a healthcare provider, Szamocki saw an issue: there are simply not enough specialists to treat everyone who needs them.
When she first set out to connect doctors and specialists remotely, she was told it couldn’t be done, and that specialists wouldn’t be able to collaborate with generalists in this way. But Szamocki knew this wasn’t the case from her own front-line experience working in A&E, where teamwork between doctors and specialists was as critical as it gets.
What was needed? A tech platform that removed communication roadblocks. Now, 32Co has an AI-powered, end-to-end platform, which is able to provide clinician training, clinical diagnosis, treatment design and procurement all under roof. Taking the way patients can access specialists to the next level.
By 2023, 32Co had already raised £2.2m in seed funding led by Balderton Capital. Today, 32Co is used and trusted by thousands of registered dentists and orthodontic specialists across the country.
Szamocki proudly claims 32Co as the “only multi-vertical specialist platform of its kind in the UK”. While starting in orthodontics, the brand has branched out into sleep health, launching Aerox Health, which helps to treat patients for snoring and sleep apnoea.
32Co continues to build on its platform. It has already released five new AI products to help give patients a smoother experience, including the world’s first AI orthodontic clinical coach, and wants to expand to another vertical within the next five years.
The business is breaking down the barriers between patients and specialist help for better smiles, better sleep, and a better-connected healthcare system in the UK.
