64. Enbiosis Biotechnology Gut biome treatment is too generalised to be impactful, argue Enbiosis’ founders, so they created a platform to deliver personalised plans. Founders: Omer Ozkan and Ozkan Ufuk NalbantogluYear founded: 2021Website: enbiosis.comThe relationship between our gut biome and many chronic conditions is well documented. However, solutions are often one-size fits all, say Enbiosis Biotechnology co-founders Omer Ozkan and Ozkan Ufuk Nalbantoglu. The duo created Enbiosis, which is up from being 86th in last year’s list. It is a healthcare B2B platform that uses a combination of whole-genome sequencing, AI, and clinical data to create personalised nutrition and supplement plans. Each plan is a “practical, personalised health solution,” they explain, which is designed to restore key functions of the gut microbiome, which will then have measurable health outcomes. They use a proprietary AI engine with more than 45,000 microbiome profiles analysed and a cloud-based SaaS platform, compatible with all major sequencing platforms. An estimated one in five people in the UK suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) alone and this figure is probably higher as many cases are undiagnosed, says the NHS. However, current approaches include generic probiotics and fad diets – and these overlook individual microbiome profiles. The team won credibility by publishing peer-reviewed clinical trials. “We showed that our personalised diet plan is superior to the gold-standard low-FODMAP diet for IBS. This credibility opened the door to partnerships with hospitals, labs, and distributors,” they share.Enbiosis Biotechnology now works with hospitals, diagnostic labs and functional medicine practitioners across more than 15 countries. The results are compelling. The company reports a 78% success rate in treating IBS and an 83% success rate in treating chronic constipation. The platform was also cited as the most effective solution for IBS patients in the American Journal of Gastroenterology last year. The venture is now focused upon becoming “the global leader in microbiome-powered personalised nutrition” and is working towards both FDA and NHS approvals. The hope for the next five years is to have processed more than one million tests, have a pipeline of microbiome-based therapeutics, and to continue to close the gap between the gut health solutions on offer, and what the increasing number of patients actually need.View the full Startups 100 Index for 20261.
